Gum disease, flossing, water pik, tooth cleaning… this is the topic of this post.

The story: Back in January or February… it was cold, it was roasted chestnut season, and one of my crowns must have stuck in the sticky chestnut meat… because when I finished gorging on the delicacy: I could not find my tooth.  I picked over the trash, I waited for days for it to come out on the other end (lol), but to no avail.

I spent the next few months toothless, justifying why I don’t go anywhere, why I decline to go to parties, etc. People had an immediate reaction when I opened my mouth: someone with a missing tooth cannot be prosperous, cannot be happy, cannot be wise… and suddenly I experienced a sharp decline in business, an uncomfortable sense of being judged for my looks not for my substance.

In August I abruptly ended this experiment but paying for a new crown.

The treatment came with the mandatory deep cleaning of my teeth and the tooth brush/floss package.

It seems that the dentists only know manual cleaning… in spite of the fact that there is sonicare, a fast, effective, and now affordable tooth brush (I bought my first when it was $295… back in 1991 or 1992) and water pik… both do the work for you if you are willing to do the work of holding them and moving them in your mouth.

Result: the average person needs a tooth cleaning ($200-$300) every six months, I only need one every few years. Flossing actually loosens the caps… and I find it highly invasive.

Anyway, now that I don’t have a missing tooth, expect some videos from me… 🙂
